No. 4 batsman Shreyas Iyer was one of the campaign’s numerous heroes who continuously delivered for the team during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory on March 9. Captain Rohit Sharma praised the Mumbai cricketer, who led India in scoring during the tournament, as the “silent hero.”
Shreyas Iyer, who amassed 243 runs at an average of 48.60 in five innings, including two half-centuries, was instrumental in India’s undefeated campaign. Just behind Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand, who won Player of the Tournament, he was the tournament’s second-highest run scorer.
“Excellent. To be honest, I am at a loss for words. It’s an amazing sensation. That I was able to support the team in every game and in every way makes me very happy. Getting those important catches and run-outs in the outfield as well. In a video released by BCCI following the final victory, Iyer stated, “I think there is no better feeling than seeing that you are the team’s top run scorer, and the feeling is surreal, man.”
Overall, it’s a wonderful feeling: Shreyas Iyer
The Champions Trophy victory marked the end of an amazing year for Shreyas Iyer. The 30-year-old won five major trophies in a 12-month period, including the IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders, the Irani Trophy 2024, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, the Champions Trophy 2025 with India, and the Ranji Trophy 2023-25 with Mumbai. He conveyed his emotions and was pleased to help the squad win.
“In my opinion, I could have won the game tonight (in the championship game), but what? Ultimately, everyone wants to see the team win the game, and on any given day, I would prefer winning the trophy than hitting the winning runs. It’s a wonderful feeling all around, and I am really pleased with how each and every person helped the team win and raise my maiden ICC trophy. I am incredibly grateful and fortunate to have won five titles in a single year,” he continued.

Following Kohli’s early dismissal in the 20th over of the final, he entered at a critical juncture. Rohit was also dismissed a few overs later, placing India in a difficult situation. Before facing the Kiwi bowlers, Shreyas Iyer took his time settling in and stabilising the innings. He was removed by Mitchell Santner after scoring 48 off 62 balls.
Now that the Champions Trophy campaign is over, he will concentrate on guiding Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even though he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL championship the previous season, KKR decided not to keep him on board. But in the mega-auction, PBKS managed to get him for an incredible INR 26.75 crore.
