Some players have expressed their dissatisfaction in recent weeks with the WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League) 2023’s lack of use of the DRS and the third umpire. In the WBBL 2023, there have been numerous occasions where the officials’ poor choices have changed the course of the match.
It is noteworthy that out of the 59 games in the season, only 24 are fully televised, providing the teams and standing officials with DRS and third umpire reviews. There are no third umpires or even a DRS system in the remaining matches.
It has been declared that there won’t be any modifications in 2023, nevertheless. Cricket Australia has announced that starting in 2024, all games would have DRS and third umpires available. Hayley Matthews also voiced her opinion, stating that the WBBL may advance significantly with the addition of the DRS and a third umpire for each game.
“I think that would be a tremendous step; we’re definitely seeing it wherever we go these days, with DRS, a third umpire, and full broadcasts in every franchise competition. The WBBL, which is in its ninth season, has been, in my opinion, the top competition for a number of years. Matthews stated, “I think that would help raise the standard of the game even more. I think I’d love to see it implemented now.”
