According to reports, Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee, wants wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan to rejoin the Indian Test team in England after Rishabh Pant was injured and subsequently ruled out of the rest of the series.
Kishan has played in two Test matches, both against the West Indies earlier in the year, and his most recent appearance for India was in a Twenty20 International match against Australia in November 2023. Kishan will probably be the backup wicketkeeper, though, as Dhruv Jurel is anticipated to take over wicketkeeping responsibilities in Manchester and take Pant’s place for the final Test at The Oval.
The Indian Express cited a source in the story as stating, “The selection committee will add Ishan Kishan to the squad ahead of the fifth Test as Pant won’t be part of the final Test match, which will be played from July 31 to August 4 at The Oval.”
Ishan Kishan has a good chance to reclaim his national position.
In 2024, Ishan Kishan was dropped off the BCCI’s Central Contract list for not playing domestic cricket as required by the board. He eventually regained his central contract in April 2025 after making a comeback by playing for Jharkhand in the domestic season of 2024–2025.
Ishan Kishan is now playing for Northamptonshire in Division One of the present County Championship season. In his first spell, he has scored 87 and 77 runs in recent innings.
The latest form of Ishan Kishan
Kishan played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, amassing 354 runs in 14 games. In just 45 balls against the Rajasthan Royals, he achieved his first IPL century as well. In last year’s mega-auction, SRH paid INR 11.25 crore to obtain his services.
The 27-year-old has scored 78 runs, including a half-century in red-ball cricket, while primarily playing for India in ODIs and T20Is. He achieved the fastest-ever double century in ODI history in December 2022, hitting 200 off 126 balls, 12 balls faster than the previous mark set by West Indies great Chris Gayle. In addition, he became the youngest player to accomplish this outstanding accomplishment.
