In the most recent ICC rankings for Twenty20 International batsmen, which were released on Thursday, India opener Ishan Kishan moved up 10 spots to the 23rd position, and Deepak Hooda made his way back into the top 100.
Both players rose up the table as a result of their outstanding performances in India’s maiden Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka, which took place on Tuesday in Mumbai and was won by India by two runs.
Ishan Kishan was rewarded for his quick 37-run performance at the top of the order, while Hooda moved up 40 places to 97th after scoring 41 runs off 23 balls without being dismissed.
Despite suffering a rare loss in Mumbai, the swashbuckling Suryakumar Yadav remained in the number one slot for batters.
The second player to climb up the rankings is Hardik Pandya, who is now India’s new T20I skipper and moved up nine places to 76th among bowlers.
As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, Wanindu Hasaranga was once again a significant contributor against India. The right-numbers armer’s of 1/22 with the ball helped the right-hander pull further clear as the highest-ranked Twenty20 International bowler.
Hasaranga also scored 21 runs in a hurry with the bat, and as a result, the 25-year-old moved up two spots to fifth place on the most recent list of all-rounders.
Despite his poor performance in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, Marnus Labuschagne continues to sit atop the standings for hitters in Tests, where he maintains a sizable lead over the competition.
However, his closest competitors, teammate Steve Smith, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, and former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson are all drawing closer to the 28-year-old Labuschagne. Labuschagne is currently in first place.
Williamson is the second big winner in the most recent rankings. The seasoned right-hander moved up two places and is now back within the top five at number five as a result of scoring his fifth double century of his illustrious career in the first Test match against Pakistan.
Pat Cummins just had one wicket to show for his bowling efforts during Australia’s victory against the Proteas on Boxing Day, but he still retained a significant 37-point lead over England’s seasoned veteran James Anderson.
