“When Ishan hit 200, I felt my career was over: Shikhar Dhawan”

"When Ishan Kishan hit that 200, I had a gut feeling that this could be the end of his career. I heard an inner voice. And that's what took place," Dhawan stated.

"When Ishan hit 200, I felt my career was over: Shikhar Dhawan"

Shikhar Dhawan, a former Indian cricket player, recently talked about that his international career was coming to an end. When fellow opener Ishan Kishan struck a double century, it signalled a change in India’s white-ball strategy, especially in the ODI format.

In the final ODI between India and Bangladesh in Chattogram, captain Rohit Sharma was unable to play, therefore Dhawan and Kishan opened the innings. Kishan played an incredible performance, smashing 210 off 131 balls, including 24 fours and 10 sixes, while Dhawan was bowled for just three. Dhawan realised after the performance that his tenure with the Indian team was coming to an end.

“I didn’t get a 100, but I was getting a lot of 70s and 50s. Ishan Kishan’s 200 score made me think, “Okay, boy, this could be the end of your career.” I heard an inner voice. And that’s what took place. Then I recalled that my buddies had been over to offer me emotional support. They assumed I would be depressed. However, I was relaxing and having fun,” Dhawan told Hindustan Times before to the publication of his memoirs, “The One.”

Gill is generating an atmosphere of his own: Shikhar Dhawan

Shubman Gill’s ascent ultimately forced Dhawan out of India’s ODI lineup prior to the 2023 ODI World Cup. Despite having a strong record in ODIs and ICC events, Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged that it become harder for him to stay up with the competition as Gill solidified his position across forms.

There is now a perspective that can be seen in that manner. Another perspective is that Shubman Gill was excelling in both T20s and Tests at the time. I don’t appear in the photo as much now. I’m here exclusively for ODIs. However, the other player is performing exceptionally well and is spending more time with the instructors. According to Shikhar Dhawan, he is genuinely and naturally establishing his own aura or surroundings.

Another significant setback for the former Indian opener came when he was left off of India’s 2021 T20 World Cup roster. Shikhar Dhawan international career came to an end as he captained a second-string Indian team in his final Twenty20 International series during the Sri Lankan trip.

“I was aware that my name would not be included in the 2021 T20 World Cup roster.” I sensed it. This does not mean that you will be given everything. I didn’t enquire as to why my name wasn’t called. They would have had their own opinions even if I had asked, and I will share my own experience. It doesn’t change anything and doesn’t make sense,” Shikhar Dhawan said.
