In the fourth Test match against England in Manchester, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has asked star pacer Jasprit Bumrah to put in additional effort if the team needs him. The forthcoming Test at Old Trafford will probably be Bumrah’s last outing of the tour, since India is now behind 1-2 in the five-match series.
Bumrah’s contributions were commended by Pathan, who also underlined that he must be ready to give it his all if necessary. The former all-rounder added that it is preferable for a player to take a break if he is unable to give it his all.
“I love Bumrah; he is incredibly talented. But I think you have to give it your best when you play for India. You are not bowling the sixth over when you refer to a five-over period when Root arrives. You must put your all into it. You either give it your all or get enough sleep. When you are playing for a team or a country, you are playing for them.
On his YouTube channel, Irfan Pathan stated, “Team always comes first.”
The former cricket player who is now a commentator explained that he is confident in Bumrah’s on-field performance. But like England captain Ben Stokes, who bowled a 9.2-over stint on the morning of the fifth day at Lord’s and another 10 overs in the second session of the day, he thinks the speedster needs to push himself farther and dig deeper.
The all-rounder for Baroda, who is now occupied with the India Champions for the WCL 2025 in England, urged Bumrah to adopt Stokes’ tenacity and step up to win games for India, stressing that such performances are necessary to maintain the team’s standing as the best in the world in the long run.
“I don’t doubt that he has worked hard. He has overs to bowl. It is without question. But you have to do that when it comes to going above and beyond for the team. If Bumrah keeps winning games for India, he will be at the top for a very long time. When the team needs you, you have to go above and beyond. Jofra achieved it after four years, and Ben Stokes did it first,” Pathan continued.
Mohammed Siraj, a fellow pacer, has verified that his senior pro would play in the fourth Test, which starts on July 23.
