Legendary Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has called for a change in cricket regulations regarding the ball being ruled out of play after the umpire makes their call. In the fourth T20I of the series, opening batsman and vice-captain Shubman Gill was involved in a similar incident, Irfan said.
The untested Gill was lbw on the first ball of the 14th over. Since he was sure he edged the ball before it struck his pads, the Indian T20I vice-captain conveyed the decision upstairs immediately. Replays showed a significant inside-edge onto the pad, overturning the verdict and giving India a review.
Gill, batting with skipper Suryakumar Yadav, had one by the time the umpire decided. Even though he was not out, the single was called off because the ball was dead.
Team should be permitted a run and the ball not deemed dead, according to Irfan Pathan.
Umpire gives it out, batter reviews, it’s not out, so why is the batting team losing a run? Makes no sense. Time for a rule change.

And speaking of the game, India won by 48 runs at Carrara. Axar Patel won Player of the Match for his all-around performance with 21* off 11 and 2/20 in 4 overs. Gill scored 46 off 39 to become the Men in Blue’s top scorer. Washington Sundar let allowed just three runs in his 1.2 overs while taking three wickets.
The team led by Suryakumar Yadav has a two-match advantage in the series. The Brisbane Cricket Ground is set to host the white-ball series’ last game on Saturday, November 8. India lost the ODI leg by a score of 2-1. By winning the first two 50-over matches, the Australians had secured the series. India won the dead rubber by nine wickets and 69 balls remaining thanks to a much improved performance.
In an all-format series consisting of two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is, the team will return to India following the final T20I to play South Africa. The BCCI revealed the red-ball team for the two-match series on Wednesday, November 5.
