After the first Test of the current five-match series between England and India concluded, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan voiced his displeasure with Prasidh Krishna’s economy rate. For the uninitiated, Prasidh took five wickets in both innings but gave up 220 runs in 35 overs.
Irfan Pathan emphasised that Prasidh has the height and speed to be successful in the red-ball style for a very long time and pushed him to be flexible in the future to suit different batters. Additionally, he contrasted his game economy rate with Bumrah’s in Twenty20 cricket.
“Take a look at his economy throughout the course of the two innings. When it comes to the worst economy for a fast bowler in history, he ranks second. In T20s, Bumrah’s economy is close to 6.50 [6.88]. He will therefore need to focus on his economics. His height and speed are good. “The batter says he needs to learn how to bowl a consistent area as soon as possible,” Irfan said on Sony Sports.
In the second innings, Karim’s performance was significantly improved.
Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim also reviewed the match with Irfan. He agreed with Irfan’s observation and emphasised that Prasidh needed to put in more effort to consistently land the ball in the appropriate spots.
“A lot of runs are leaking from him. That won’t be how it turns out. The second innings was a far better effort. In a variety of stints, he bowled well. He altered his length and profited as a result, as Irfan stated. He still occasionally bowls too short or gives too much width, though. “He needs to put a lot of effort into that,” Karim said.
After Ben Stokes’ batsmen successfully chased down 371 in the fourth innings, India lost by five wickets. The third-worst economy rate (6.28) for bowlers who have bowled at least twenty overs in a single Test match was recorded by Prasidh.
Going forward, Edgbaston in Birmingham will host the second game of the series. After the crushing defeat, it will be interesting to observe the changes made to the team. Prasidh has a good chance of making the starting lineup. It will be interesting to watch how the team lead by Shubman Gill handles the loss and whether any pace attack replacements are announced.
