Before the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, veteran Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that India should bolster their bowling attack. The USA and the West Indies are scheduled to host the highly anticipated competition in June.
In Twenty20 international cricket, Irfan Pathan said, India typically performs quite well at the bat.
He did, however, bring up the Men in Blue’s miserable performance in the 2022 tournament in Dubai and explain why India should consider strengthening their bowling attack in the upcoming ICC competition.
“T20 cricket allows you to play with a fearless mindset and to be a little more aggressive with the bat. What matters more, in my opinion, is that India’s bowling needs to be improved in order to improve its performances against Pakistan in Dubai and against England in the semifinals in Australia. We won’t win significant competitions unless we accomplish that, Irfan Pathan stated to Star Sports.
“You need to have five good bowlers who can take wickets; at least three or four of them should be able to bowl at any point throughout the game, particularly if a breakthrough is required during a risky partnership. “The World Cup is not far away if we can find such bowlers,” he continued.
According to Sunil Gavaskar, all-rounders are also essential.
In addition, legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar added that all-rounders may also be crucial players for their team, echoing Irfan Pathan’s assessment of India’s weakest positions. A strong bowling assault, in his opinion, requires having a few stand-in bowlers who can take over on days when some of the key bowlers are pricey.
“All-arounders are also very important. It makes a big difference if you have a couple of batters who can roll the arm over in your top five. A certain bowler may have a poor day and lack confidence because of the way this format is set up. It is therefore necessary for someone to finish that bowler’s quota. Even if working part-time can sometimes be costly, Gavaskar stated that at least the captain has something to work with.
