Starting on June 12, Ireland will play the West Indies in a three-match Twenty20 International series. The Irish team will want to make the most of the chance by winning before the highly anticipated series begins. A series victory would be a more fitting way to start their redemption period, even though they have been winning games here and there.
From May 21 to May 25, the Ireland squad faced the West Indies in an ODI series.
Ireland’s hopes for the series against the two-time T20 World Cup winners have been discussed by Gary Wilson, the batting and wicketkeeping coach, who stated that they had a respectable record against them. Rain forced the cancellation of one game, and the series finished in a 1-1 draw.
It’s a fantastic venue to play cricket, and we’ve had a respectable record versus the West Indies in recent years. Locals support it wholeheartedly. The BBC quoted Wilson as saying, “It’s a hotbed of Irish cricket, and obviously we know how good they are in this form of cricket—it’s definitely the format they feel most comfortable in. But we’re looking forward to the challenge and hopefully the weather plays ball.”
Wilson continued, “We’re looking to put that into series wins rather than one-off games because we’ve shown a big ability to get big results, especially on the global stage over the last number of years.”
Winning the series is the goal: Mark Adair
Despite the West Indies’ poor performance in their most recent Twenty20 International series against England, veteran Irish pacer Mark Adair has maintained that his country still has a lot of talented players and is one of the finest in the world. Like Wilson, the speedster appeared to be focused on figuring out how to win the eagerly awaited T20I series.
“In my view, they are among the world’s top teams. They are among the most fascinating teams to watch, and I believe they have some of the most exciting cricket players. We’ll take on this new task head-on. I hope we can complete the task. Winning the series is the goal. We seem like a good fit, and I’m excited to go back out there,” Adair remarked.
