Beginning on May 21, Ireland will host the West Indies. There will be three ODIs and three T20Is between the two teams. Additionally, this will be the first time the Green and Whites have hosted the Caribbean Giants since 2019.
Today, the Irish made their ODI and T20I team announcements. Paul Stirling, the team’s star opening batsman, will be the team’s leader, and Lorcan Tucker will be his deputy. Three uncapped players will also be included in the squad for the series: two up-and-coming Irish fast bowlers, Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy, and youthful top-order batsman Cade Carmichael.
In addition to praising the three players for their outstanding domestic cricket exploits, National Men’s Selector Andrew White also explains why the three players were chosen. McCarthy is a member of both the ODI and T20I teams, however Carmichael and Mayes will be in the ODI lineup.
For a number of years, Cade Carmichael has been in the pathway. His growth over the past few years is a clear indication of how his steady performances and capacity to modify his style of play have been acknowledged with an international call-up, according to White, who was quoted by Cricbuzz. His skill, stroke play, and tenacity were all on full display for the Wolves in April.
Similarly, two seam bowlers, Liam McCarthy and Tom Mayes, have also received recognition for their reliability and capacity to improve their game whenever called upon. Both guys contribute something unique to the team: McCarthy adds a somewhat new dimension to our attack and will undoubtedly test the batters’ methods, while Mayes offers his height and accuracy,” White continued.
