IPL2024: Matheesha Pathirana's manager updates the team on the pacer's return

Due to an injury, Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) pacer Matheesha Pathirana was forced to sit out the first game. Matheesha Pathirana match fitness was a concern ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) due to his availability. CSK’s chances of becoming a deadly bowling team were drastically altered as a result. The management of Pathirana has now addressed any doubts regarding the pacer’s health and declared him ready to play in the league’s 17th season.

The right arm bowler suffered a hamstring injury in the second Twenty20 International match against Bangladesh in Sylhet earlier this month. He had to leave the field in the middle of his spell, before he had even finished. It is important to note that the bowler is presently receiving intense rehabilitation in Colombo and that Sri Lanka Cricket has not granted him any clearance. It was previously expected that he would miss CSK’s opening two league games at the very least.

Coach Stephen Fleming had stated, “In reference to Matheesha Pathirana,

“In terms of injuries, we’re doing fairly well. It’s flying compared to last year. However, we’re always realistic because we’re only a practice session away from a pair. However, we do appreciate our team’s depth, especially when it comes to bowling this year. Accurately choosing those pairings based on form will be the difficult part. However, Matheesha Pathirana is not now with us, but everything else is going rather well, according to Fleming, who was cited by ESPNcricinfo.

CSK will be led by Shardul Thakur at the end of the IPL 2024 season.

With Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur at his disposal, bowling coach Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings seemed to have solved the death bowling puzzle, even though the Sri Lankan pacer may miss out. Prior to this, Thakur oversaw the CSK bowling attack at the death. After regaining the franchise’s trust by winning him at auction, he might be important in providing the team with a fitting finish in his bowling career.

“My specialty is death bowling. In my opinion, the death overs are a crucial part of the T20 match. You need to put it into practice, persuade these individuals to value philosophy, and help them strive for it. We are eager to top our excellent death-bowling squad from the previous year. Additionally, Shardul [Thakur] is returned, adding to the depth. “Having depth in the squad is always a good thing,” Bravo stated.
