IPL2024: In a squad revamp, LSG is probably going to release eight or nine players.

The Lucknow Super Giants LSG are getting ready for a big change ahead of the next IPL season. They will be releasing a large group of players—roughly eight to nine—which will free up a sizable reserve of 20–25 crore INR for the December 19 auction. Even though they have qualified for the playoffs on a regular basis, the squad wants to make changes to improve their chances.

According to reports from Cricbuzz, Justin Langer, the recently appointed coach, made the strategic decision to split ways with a number of players, including Manan Vohra, Suryansh Shedge, Karan Sharma, and Swapnil Singh. Vohra, a top-order batsman from Punjab, played in few games the previous year. Mumbai’s all-rounders Sharma, acquired in 2022, and Shedge, purchased at his base price last year, both saw little action. Former squad member and seasoned 32-year-old all-rounder with exposure to domestic cricket, Swapnil Singh, is currently on the release list.

Even though LSG has been in the playoffs recently, they haven’t been able to win the championship. This was especially true in the 2023 season, when they finished third in the league but were not selected for the finals for the second time in a row. The franchise is looking to strategically reorganize in order to perhaps improve their performance in the fiercely competitive Indian Premier League, given the upcoming auction and personnel changes.

Gautam Gambhir, the LSG mentor, leaves the franchise

The former Indian cricket player Gautam Gambhir returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders, an IPL side he had guided to two titles, after leaving the Lucknow Super Giants. During two seasons, Gambhir served as a mentor for LSG, helping them advance to the playoffs in both of those seasons. Even though LSG placed third in the 2023, they failed to secure a final berth for the second year in a row.

According to rumors, the Chennai Super Kings would be saying goodbye to a few big names, including retired Ambati Rayudu and Ben Stokes, who chose not to play. Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati, Sisanda Magala, and Kyle Jamieson are further exits. In the meantime, the Kolkata Knight Riders are making a roster change in anticipation of the challenges of the upcoming season by releasing Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Shardul Thakur.
