On Saturday, April 5, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No. 17 of the 2025 IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
The iconic location hosted the toss in cloudy conditions, and before the exciting match, the leaders swapped their team papers.
Update on Toss
Due to an elbow injury, it was anticipated that MS Dhoni will captain the team in Ruturaj Gaikwad’s place. But before the match, the reliable captain got back to full fitness and flipped the coin across from Axar Patel. On a foggy evening at Chepauk, the DC captain made the right decision and chose to bat first. Since Chennai received rain earlier in the morning, it is anticipated that cloudy conditions may be present.
Faf du Plessis is not fit for Delhi; Chennai will field Devon Conway.
Axar called in Sameer Rizvi after confirming before the toss that their star batsman Faf du Plessis was not completely healthy enough to play. However, Chennai also made a few changes to their lineup, replacing Rahul Tripathi with Mukesh Choudhary and adding Devon Conway for his first game of the season. Conway will cover the four abroad possibilities, and Jamie Overton will not play either.
What were the words of the captains?
Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK captain
We were looking to bat as well. Looks a bit dry. It’s a bit cloudy, won’t change much. You always want momentum in T20 cricket. Overall, the chat has been positive. Fielding is something which we can improve day by day. We want to be proactive. Elbow is good. Conway comes in for Overton. Mukesh comes in for Rahul Tripathi.
Axar Patel, DC captain
We are going to bat first. Feels like there’ll be help for the bowlers. Expect it to get slower as the game progresses. In our team, we have a few players who have captained other franchises and that helps me a lot. Same combination. Faf is not fit for this game, Sameer Rizvi is playing.
