Mitchell Marsh’s absence from Saturday, April 12’s match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), who are currently atop the league, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium has dealt the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) a severe setback.
At the Eden Gardens, Lucknow defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by an exciting four runs prior to this match. The Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, have won four straight games. Earlier this week, they defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 58 runs in Ahmedabad.
Update on Toss
After winning the LSG toss, Rishabh Pant asked GT to bat first. He praised the bowlers’ effort and expressed his happiness after winning the last two games. Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat, acknowledged that if he had won the toss, he would have likewise bowled first. He did, however, add that the surface might not change during the entire game. Additionally, he emphasised that this season, every member of the team is making a contribution.
Mitchell Marsh is out, thus Lucknow has a new opening duo.
Due to the illness of his little daughter Lila, Pant announced at the toss that the in-form Marsh will not be participating in this competition. Himmat Singh replaces the all-rounder from Australia. In the last game, Marsh and Aiden Markram had a fantastic opening partnership of 99 runs. But in this battle, LSG is now compelled to choose a different opening combination. Shubman stated that Washington Sundar has been reinstated in the team in lieu of Kulwant Khejroliya.
What were the words of the captains?
Shubman Gill, GT skipper, said
I would have bowled first as well. I don’t think the wicket is going to change much. Everyone is contributing in their way, that’s been one of the hallmarks for us. For us, it’s all about playing one game after the other, doesn’t matter how many games we have won or lost in the past. It’s about giving our best. Washi (Sundar) comes in for Kulwant (Khejroliya).
Rishabh Pant, LSG skipper, said
We are going to bowl first. The wicket looks good we want to explore the conditions under the dry sun, that’s why we are bowling first, Happy to win the last two matches. As a team, we talk about the process and the team is responding well now. Bowlers have done a really good job, we have to give credit to them. A lot of times, they bowl hard overs, you got to give them care and love. Just one change. Instead of Mitchell Marsh, Himmat Singh comes in. His daughter is not well, he’s looking after that.
