Rajasthan Royals’ problems in the current IPL edition worsened after they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 11 runs. They also lost a run-chase despite being comfortably positioned for the majority of the second innings for the third time in a row this season. However, they tied an awful IPL record after losing to RCB at the Chinnaswamy.
In the franchise’s IPL history, this was only the second time they had lost five straight games.
Their losing streak of five games is their worst to date. The only other instance occurred in the 2009 and 2010 editions, when RR lost their first three 2010 matches and their last two 2009 group-stage matches.
For the first time in a season, RR has suffered five straight losses as a result. In 2020, they came in at the bottom, while in 2010, 2019, and 2021, they came in second from last. Nevertheless, the first IPL champions did not experience five consecutive losses in a single season in either of the aforementioned seasons.
Since their 50-run victory over Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 5, RR has not won. The outcomes of the games RR has played since then are shown in the following table:
Opposition | Venue | First Innings | Second Innings | Result |
Gujarat Titans | Ahmedabad | GT: 217/6 (20) | RR: 159/10 (19.2) | GT won by 58 runs |
Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Jaipur | RR: 173/4 (20) | RCB: 175/1 (17.3) | RCB won by nine wickets |
Delhi Capitals | Delhi | DC: 188/5 (20) | RR: 188/4 (20) | DC won the Super Over |
Lucknow Super Giants | Jaipur | LSG: 180/5 (20) | RR: 178/5 (20) | LSG won by two runs |
Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Bengaluru | RCB: 205/5 (20) | RR: 194/9 (20) | RCB won by 11 runs |
The next two games for RR are against the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, respectively, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. April 28 and May 1 are the dates of the matches, respectively. RR is currently in ninth place going into IPL 2025 Match 43.
