The Governing Council meeting of the IPL is scheduled for July 31. The expansion of the team purse from 100 crore to 125 crore and workable Right To Match (RTM) possibilities are the two most important agenda items. The ten teams in the cash-rich league will gather in Mumbai on Wednesday to discuss the major developments and submit their requirements ahead of the massive auction that will take place for the 2025 season.
A report from NDTV Sports claims that the small number of player retentions is a major worry for all teams. Prior to mega auctions, each franchise was permitted to keep four players, provided that there were no more than three Indian and two foreign players. Moreover, a franchise could only keep two uncapped players if it so desired.
“I’m quite convinced that (the purse increase) is taking place. Anything in the range of Rs 120 crore to 125 crore will be a fair offer, given the typical increase should be between 20 and 25 percent. The majority of teams would accept it, according to a senior IPL franchise official.
Rules governing player retention are extremely important to teams.
The well-known franchise source also said that clubs are considering board requests to change the regulations and raise the player cap to five or six. The limitation teams experienced in excluding their expensive foreign players due to the two player cap was the matter of concern in this case. More focus might be placed on repealing the Impact Player rule, which has drawn harsh criticism from cricket greats and former players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“Obviously, going forward, keeping a core and continuity is crucial. Permit up to six (retentions), which could include a few RTM cards and the retention of at least one uncapped player. However, there might be disagreements regarding the quantity of international retentions.

“There are teams like Delhi Capitals (Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Travis Head), who would want more than one overseas retention,” according to a source from a reputable organisation.
