IPL 2026 Auction Date and Retention Deadline Announced

With December 13–15 appearing as the most likely window, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is anticipated to occur in the second or third week of December.

These dates are being considered, according to franchise officials speaking with BCCI officials; however, the league’s governing council has not yet formally confirmed the schedule.

As of right now, there is no indication that the 2026 sale will go in the same manner as the previous two editions, which featured auctions held abroad—in Dubai in 2023 and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2024. Sources from a number of franchises tell Cricbuzz that it wouldn’t be shocking if the BCCI chose to hold the mini-auction in India. The final choice is still up for debate, though, and is anticipated to be made closer to the suggested dates.

The retention deadline for the 2026 Indian Premier League is November 15, which may be stated with some degree of assurance. Before the mini-auction, franchises are required to submit the names of the players they intend to release by this date. Apart from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who finished last season at the bottom, there are currently no indications of a significant team reorganisation.

According to the sources, CSK may let go of Devon Conway, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, and Deepak Hooda. Since R Ashwin retired, the five-time winners have already gained INR 9.75 crore to their purse. Sanju Samson will probably be the first player released by RR unless a deal for the captain is arranged. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, two Sri Lankan spinners, had also been linked to being released, but that plan might change now that Kumar Sangakkara is back as head coach.

It has not yet been announced, but other players including T Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, David Miller, and Venkatesh Iyer may look for other franchises. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is one of the most sought-after players for the auction; he was injured and missed the previous one, but he has already drawn a lot of interest from teams.
