When Indian batting virtuoso Virat Kohli played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the first IPL 2025 match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he reached another significant milestone in his storied career: 400 T20 matches. As a result, Kohli became the first cricketer from India to play 400 Twenty20 matches, 100 Test matches, and 300 One-Day Internationals.
When Kohli made his Delhi debut in the Inter-State Twenty20 Tournament in April 2007, his Twenty20 career officially began. He signed an IPL contract with RCB in the tournament’s first year in 2008 as a result of his outstanding domestic accomplishments and effective leadership during India’s U19 World Cup championship campaign. Kohli has remained devoted to the team ever since, making him the only player in IPL history to play for the same squad each season.
Under Suresh Raina’s captaincy, Kohli made his debut for India in the Twenty20 International format against Zimbabwe in 2010. In 399 games, he has amassed 12886 runs, including 97 half-centuries and nine hundreds. In 141 games during the T20 Internationals, Virat Kohli amassed 4188 runs, including a century and 38 half-centuries. After leading India to win in the 2024 T20 World Cup, he retired from Twenty20 Internationals. With 1292 runs at an average of 58.72, he is the tournament’s all-time top run scorer.
With 8004 runs, including eight hundreds, Virat Kohli is the top run scorer in the IPL.
Even now, Virat Kohli 2016 973-run total stands as a record. The 36-year-old will play in 2025 under Rajat Patidar’s tutelage.
Notably, he becomes one of only two Indian cricketers to have played 400 Twenty20 matches, along with Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. Karthik, who retired following the 2024 Indian Premier League, has played in 412 games, while Rohit leads the list with 448 outings.
