Bomb threats have been made against Chennai’s famous MA Chidambaram Stadium during the IPL 2025 suspension. On Friday, local police confirmed the event, claiming to have received an email about the threat. Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan along the border areas, Chepauk received similar threats to those made to Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
The email claimed that if the stadium officials went ahead and held a game there, they would be subject to repercussions, including the possibility of a bombing. In an effort to find the people responsible for the threat, the local police have opened an inquiry. Nevertheless, the email’s preliminary analysis did not turn up any important information regarding the problem.
After being summoned to confirm the threat, a bomb disposal unit inspected the location and discovered nothing unusual. In a media briefing, police officials informed PTI that no concrete proof was found during the probe.
“It was a hoax,” the police officers who looked into the venue’s bombing threat said.

The threatening email was sent to stadium administrators on Thursday, May 8. The matter was reported to the police on Friday, May 9, one day later. There were concerns that it might be the work of repeat criminals after a similar threat was made at Delhi’s stadium. A bomb threat was also made against Eden Gardens in Kolkata a few days ago. Security concerns caused the CSK vs. KKR match to be postponed. The game restarted over an hour past the planned time once everything had been checked and safety had been guaranteed.
Three identical threats that have no real consequence have prompted the commencement of an inquiry to look into the situation in detail. The authorities have not yet made any arrests. It is anticipated that leads to identify the origin of the threats will be discovered as additional information from the emails becomes available.
