In an interview prior to the Gujarat Titans vs. Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 eliminator in New Chandigarh, Suryakumar Yadav discussed the changes in T20 cricket over the past several years and how he adjusted his batting appropriately. The renowned batter did admit that there has been a minor change in T20 cricket over the past several years.
The unconventional batter asserted that middle-field scoring and striking techniques have evolved. Prior to the pandemic, Suryakumar Yadav said, his strike rate was between 140 and 150. He did, however, add that in order to be the best, he needed to alter his batting. The star hitter claimed that in order to transform into a totally different batter, he played a lot of match simulations and made creative shots.
“I believe that there has been a small modification in the T20 cricket format. Everything altered slightly in terms of striking and run banaane ke tareeke (the method of scoring runs). “Pehle hum jab batting karte the,” Suryakumar Yadav said to Star Sports in a social media video, “when we used to bat, I used to bat with a strike rate of 140-150.”
“I asked myself what I needed to do after 2020–21 when I realised that if you want to be the best, wo 3–4 saal toh khel liya maine (I played 3–4 seasons before that fine).” Return to the drawing room and spend a lot of time simulating matches. The alteration in my game in 2020 was largely responsible for all the creative shots you’re witnessing,” the Indian skipper continued.

In the nets, I don’t try anything new: Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav went on to say that he was concentrating on areas where he might score more runs and stay one step ahead of the players, captains, and captains of his opponents. The unconventional hitter asserted that he developed into a better version of himself by practicing a lot of unconventional shots and using them in his games regardless of the bowler.
Or is there a ground there that you may use, kiya jaa sakta hai acche se? Pe runs bana sakte hai kahaan? (Where can I make the best use of the ground to score runs?) How can I stay one step ahead of bowlers, captains, and other teams? Can I continue to score runs here without getting kicked out? “I asked myself these questions,” the MI batter continued.
“I started playing these shots in 2021 and 2022, and I changed entirely. I continued to support myself regardless of the bowler. In order to duplicate that enjoyment in the game, I always looked forward to my practice sessions. The star player came to the conclusion, “I don’t try anything different in practice sessions.”
