At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill was fined for his team’s slow over rate against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No. 35 of the IPL 2025 season.
“Shubman Gill has been fined INR 12 lakhs since this was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences,” the IPL stated in an official statement.
The IPL 2025 rules no longer contain player bans for repeated over-rate infractions, in contrast to prior seasons. Rather, infractions will result in in-game penalties, demerit points, and fines. This season, a number of players have already received penalties for similar actions, including Hardik Pandya (MI), Axar Patel (DC), Sanju Samson (RR), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), and Riyan Parag (RR).
With temperatures reaching as high as 40 °C, the GT captain chose to field first after winning the toss in Saturday’s game. As players battled the heat, the situation necessitated multiple breaks. DC used contributions from their batting lineup to compile a respectable total of 203 runs. With four wickets in his four-over session, GT pacer Prasidh Krishna was the most impressive bowler.
Jos Buttler led the attack as GT got off to a fast start chasing 204. He hit 11 fours and four sixes while remaining undefeated at 97* from 54 balls. Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 43 from 34 deliveries, provided him with strong support. The Titans won by seven wickets after easily chasing down the score.
After winning five of their seven games, GT surged to the top of the points standings with this triumph. Despite having a higher net run rate, they are currently tied with the Delhi Capitals by ten points. With seven games played by each of the 10 clubs, this game also signalled the midway point of the league phase.
