Mustafizur Rahman has joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) after Jake Fraser-McGurk decided to withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for personal reasons.
Many international cricket players are doubtful for the league’s second phase, and the Australian batsman is one of the first to abandon his plans to go back to India. For INR 6 crore, the left-arm medium pacer has now joined the Delhi team.
With 57 IPL games played thus far, Mustafizur Rahman has taken 61 wickets.
He has taken 132 wickets in his 106 T20I appearances for Bangladesh. It is noteworthy that the 29-year-old has already played for the team, having done so in the 2022 and 2023 iterations of the lucrative competition. The Satkhira-born player has played for successful teams like the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals in addition to DC.
He was rather influential during his time with CSK, taking 14 wickets in nine games, however he was forced to leave the team in the middle of the season due to a string of contentious decisions made by the team and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. In the last rounds of the league, Chennai lost a key component of their pace attack, which ultimately eliminated them from contention for the playoffs that season.
DC will play PBKS again after the game was suspended.
In the meantime, growing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan after the Indian government’s implementation of “Operation Sindoor” led to the cancellation of Match No. 58 between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, suspending the IPL 2025. The game in Dharamshala, where PBKS was 122/1 at the end and only 10.1 overs were bowled, will now begin anew. The game has been postponed and will now take place on Saturday, May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
