The 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season may be restarted right away, according to reports from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, they urged all IPL teams and their players to be prepared for the IPL to resume as soon as possible.
Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the IPL, acknowledged that the BCCI is now planning and talking with all parties involved with starting the competition again. However, they are not totally in control because the Indian government must approve the tournament’s continuation.
“A ceasefire was just declared. We now investigate the potential for the IPL to resume and end. If it can be carried out right away… We will now be talking to all the stakeholders, including broadcasters, team owners, and everyone else engaged, to figure out how to proceed after figuring out the venue dates and other details. The Indian Express cited Dhumal as saying, “We will have to consult with the government first and foremost.”
Additionally, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla announced that on Sunday, May 11, the board executives will meet with the IPL governing council to review the schedule.
“The BCCI, IPL Governing Council, office bearers, and officials will meet tomorrow to assess the issue in light of the recent ceasefire development. We’ll go over the tournament schedule and figure out how to do it as efficiently as feasible. Venues and other factors that were first determined during the war will be re-examined. According to moneycontrol.com, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla stated that a final decision would be made soon.
“Yes, the international players were in a panic, but it was more due to the airport closure and everything else,” stated another BCCI source. They listened to the franchises with patience and confidence, but the main cause of the alarm was the worry that international airports would be closed.
The World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa is set for June 11 at Lord’s, therefore the BCCI will want to get the league back up and running as quickly as possible. If the playoffs are postponed because of a schedule change, the players on each side may find it difficult to commit.
We might need to include a couple more double headers. However, after talks, we might strive to give teams as much home advantage as we can,” an IPL official stated.
