Officially, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host Match 61 of the current IPL between the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. According to an official press statement posted on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s website, “logistical challenges” are the cause of this.
In accordance with the original timetable, the game will still go place on Sunday, May 11 at 3:30 pm IST. This comes after the recent terror assault in Pahalgam caused the airports in Chandigarh and Dharamsala to be temporarily closed due to the current political tension between India and Pakistan.
On Thursday, May 8, however, the PBKS vs. Delhi Capitals match will take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association as scheduled. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. (IST). It makes sense that there would be more security for the match between the two teams.
The stadium’s branding and banners are one major problem brought on by the site move. The Gujarat Titans’ home field, Narendra Modi Stadium, is covered in posters and hoardings of the Shubman Gill-led team. It’s still unknown what to anticipate in regards to the previously mentioned topic, even if PBKS is scheduled to host the game.
According to reports, the Gujarat Cricket Association informed the BCCI that GT would need to be consulted on the matter. On May 14 and May 18, respectively, GT already has two home games scheduled. Because of this, rebranding such a large arena would be extremely difficult.
