Discussions concerning the future of the renowned MS Dhoni in the IPL 2025 have been reignited by the Chennai Super Kings’ lacklustre season. Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has publicly implied that it might be time for Dhoni to retire from playing after the team finished last in the league and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.
With only three victories in 13 games, CSK has come under heavy fire for their subpar play, particularly from its older players. Their problems were exacerbated by the early injury death of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who left veterans unable to perform and assume leadership responsibilities. MS Dhoni present form and position in the team were highlighted by Srikkanth.
You shouldn’t expect too much from MS Dhoni because he is also getting older. However, you can’t keep showing up and ruining things. If you are unable of doing it, simply state so and leave. MS Dhoni is the only one who can answer that call. Will he continue, and if so, what position will he play—captain, wicketkeeper, or finisher? According to Srikkanth’s YouTube account.
MS Dhoni can’t duplicate his own performance: Kris Srikkanth
The former expressed worries about Dhoni’s sluggish reflexes and physical limitations, arguing that his form and consistency have deteriorated with age.
To be fair, his reflexes have gotten worse. His knees may have failed, but his reflexes, fitness, and overall condition will all improve. Additionally, the top order is struggling,” Srikkanth continued.
With only one noteworthy effort this season—a 26-run cameo against the Lucknow Super Giants—Dhoni, who has been dealing with knee problems for a few seasons, was out of form in CSK’s most recent defeat to the Rajasthan Royals, scoring just 16 off 17 balls.
“Dhoni’s inability to duplicate his own style of play is the issue facing CSK today. He is being restrained by spinners. He used to hit spins ten rows into the stands at one point. To be fair, he’s having trouble,” Srikkanth said.
