The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 closing ceremony would feature a special tribute to the Indian Armed Forces from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The ceremony, which is planned for Tuesday, June 3 at Ahmedabad’s famous Narendra Modi Stadium, will honour the valour and service of India’s armed personnel during the most recent Operation Sindoor.
IPL 2025 was suspended for one week as a result of the increased border tensions. But after a ceasefire, the competition continued, and the BCCI has thanked the Armed Forces for their contribution to national security. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed the extraordinary gesture that will take place prior to the summit game.
The Board honours the valour, bravery, and selfless devotion of our military, whose valiant actions during Operation Sindoor continue to inspire and defend the country. We have chosen to honour the military services by dedicating the closing ceremony to them,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar.
The BCCI has paid homage at several locations since the IPL 2025 commenced on May 17. Before games, players have been spotted performing the national anthem as the stadium displays show quotes like “Thank you, Armed Forces.”
“The nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country are more important than cricket, even though cricket is still a national passion,” Saikia continued.
The BCCI has previously acknowledged the armed personnel during the Indian Premier League. A military band played at the 2019 opening ceremony in Chennai, and the board promised INR 20 crore for the military’s well-being in the wake of the Pulwama incident, which claimed the lives of 44 CRPF members.
Due to weather concerns, the final, which was initially scheduled for May 25 in Kolkata, was rescheduled to Ahmedabad. Top teams including the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in the running for the playoffs, which are now set to start on May 29.
