In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated the Gujarat Titans by 11 runs in their first match. Rahul Tewatia had the misfortune of being dismissed in a unique manner during the game. Sherfane Rutherford drove the ball back to the bowler after Arshdeep Singh bowled him a yorker.
But it went straight to the bowler’s end stumps after touching Arshdeep’s fingers. When he smacked a six on the second ball of his innings, the player looked fantastic with the bat. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosted a fantastic cricket match.
Rahul Tewatia attempted to retract the strike while out of the crease.
In the opening inning, PBKS scored 243 runs. They scored a large total thanks to excellent knocks from captain Shreyas Iyer (97*), Shashank Singh (44*), and Priyansh Arya (47). R. Sai Kishore held the game from one end despite GT’s poor bowling. In four overs, the bowler gave up just 30 runs while taking three wickets. Throughout the innings, he was GT’s sole economical bowler.
The team captained by Shubman Gill got off to a poor start when they batted, but they knew the score and would have reached the objective with a few wickets left. Sherfane Rutherford started his innings off strong but faltered in the middle. Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm bowler for PBKS, bowled brilliantly, keeping his line and length. Iyer took up the POTM trophy for an outstanding performance.

Shreyas Iyer discusses his response to remaining undefeated on 97
Shreyas Iyer, the captain of PBKS, had a fantastic start to the campaign. The athlete said that ‘it was the icing on the cake’ for them, even though he didn’t get his century. Iyer took a favorable view of the victory and gave the teammates credit for playing their best.
“For us, getting 97 not out in the season’s first game is the cherry on top. I was motivated after hitting a four on the first ball I encountered. Rabada also got a six off the flip. For the team, Shasank’s 44 runs off 16–17 balls were very important. At the presentation after the game, Shreyas Iyer stated, “We set a benchmark that we had to go for it.”
