The Mumbai Indians (MI), the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) second-most successful team, have achieved great success both on and off the field, especially in terms of their money.
With the help of media rights, ticket sales, sponsorships, and international investments, the franchise, which is owned by Reliance Industries through Indiawin Sports Pvt Ltd, has developed into a billion-dollar brand. The Mumbai Indians are still one of the league’s most valuable clubs, with a projected brand worth of USD 119 million in 2024.
The franchise was purchased in 2008 for USD 111.9 million by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which is owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani. The team has now grown to become a well-known brand in cricket worldwide. The company that oversees MI, Indiawin Sports Pvt Ltd, saw a sharp increase in revenue from INR 358.79 crore in FY23 to INR 737 crore in FY24, resulting in a net profit of INR 109 crore. The main sources of funding for this financial structure are ticket sales, sponsorships, and central revenue pools.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provides the Mumbai Indians with a significant amount of their revenue. The central media rights arrangement, under which the BCCI divides 40–50% of its media earnings among the franchises, gave the team INR 227 crore in FY23. MI’s income from this sector keeps increasing as media rights agreements becoming more profitable.
According to one estimate, MI and teams like the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru make between INR 100 crore and INR 150 crore a year from sponsorship deals. MI earned INR 10.8 crore in 2023 with sponsorships of Jio and Dream11. This is one of their most reliable sources of income, with practically every sponsorship space taken.

The Ambani-owned squad made INR 92.79 crore in 2023 from ticket sales and event management, which is a significant source of revenue. With more than 50 million followers on social media, the team has a sizable fan base that contributes to goods sales.
Additionally, the business has purchased teams in a number of T20 leagues, including MI New York (Major League Cricket), MI Cape Town (SA20), and MI Emirates (ILT20). They also won the 2023 and 2025 seasons with their Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise, which they purchased for INR 912.99 crore (USD 110 million at the time). In addition to their financial boost, they have already won 12 titles under the MI banner.

At USD 122 million, the Chennai-based team has the highest IPL brand valuation, with MI coming in at a close second. Including their five retentions and auction purchases, the team spent INR 119.80 crore on players for the 2025 Indian Premier League.
