One of the most formidable teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Last year, they advanced to the finals by using a forceful bowling assault and aggressive batting. They posted enormous totals during the season, shattering many records. One of the most deadly teams in the tournament, the team has continuously performed under Pat Cummins‘ direction.
Their achievements extend beyond the IPL.
Through its investments in teams in England’s The Hundred and South Africa’s SA20, the Sunrisers brand has grown internationally. The Orange Army is the fifth-richest IPL team, with a brand worth of USD 85 million. They assembled a formidable team with a blend of young and seasoned players in the 2025 mega-auction. In all, the franchise spent 119.80 crore at the auction.
Ownership and Wealth:
Sun TV Network, a Chennai-based media conglomerate, is the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad. One of the biggest media conglomerates in South India, Sun TV Network was founded by Kalanithi Maran and has businesses in television, newspapers, FM radio, direct-to-home (DTH) services, and filmmaking. Currently serving as SRH’s CEO, his daughter Kavya Maran is involved in the auctions and actively participates in the games.
Following the Deccan Chargers franchise’s termination, Sun TV Network paid USD 158 million to acquire SRH in 2012. With a projected net value of INR 735 crore as of 2024, SRH is among the premier IPL teams in terms of financial stability. For the fiscal year that concluded in March 2024, Sun TV Network, which runs 37 satellite television stations in several languages, had a total revenue of INR 4,630.19 crore. Their cricket teams account for a substantial amount of this money; SRH alone has contributed INR 659.03 crore, which is a twofold rise from INR 276.01 crore the year before.
Growth into International Cricket:
Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in SA20 is one of the international franchise leagues where the Sunrisers brand has spread. In the SA20 league, their South African T20 team has won consecutive championships. They recently paid GBP 100 million to acquire the Northern Superchargers business in England’s The Hundred. They became the third IPL team to own a team in England’s 100-ball league, following the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants. They also fully acquired the Yorkshire-based franchise as part of the deal.
Sources of SRH Revenue
The teams’ many revenue streams contribute to their financial success. A sizable portion comes from the IPL’s central pool, which also includes sponsorship agreements and media rights. Each franchise earns a portion of the enormous income generated by the IPL’s multibillion-dollar TV agreements. Their total revenue is greatly influenced by the sponsors of their jerseys and goods.
Notably, the team’s home field, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, draws large crowds for IPL games, and their matchday earnings have increased dramatically over time. Sun TV Network’s financial strength is further enhanced by its achievements in the media and entertainment sector. Sun TV Network’s revenue has increased significantly since their recent entry into the Hindi, Bangla, and Marathi sectors.
