IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians 2nd innings highlights against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 51

Mumbai Indians bowlers Nuwan Thushara and Jasprit Bumrah led their team in dismissing Kolkata Knight Riders for 169 runs. KKR was reduced to 57/5 in the seventh over when Hardik Pandya, who had won the toss, decided to bowl first.

KKR then got back into the game with an 83-run sixth-inning partnership from Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer. Venkatesh Iyer made 70 runs, but Mumbai rallied to take the final five wickets for just 29 runs. Bumrah eventually claimed three wickets.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1–6 (Required–46/3)

Ishan Kishan had a good start, but while attempting a big hit, he lost his leg stump to Mitchell Starc. The Mumbai Indians were then put in difficulties when Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine took out Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir.

50 runs in 7.2 overs for the Mumbai Indians

It took a while for struggling runner-up Suryakumar Yadav to get going. In an attempt to help the Mumbai Indians escape difficulty, he and Tilak Varma moved the score above 50.

First Strategic Time-out for the Mumbai Indians (61/4 from 8.4 overs)

Varun Chakravarthy got Tilak Varma caught by Sunil Narine, and he was out for 4 from 6 balls. As it did for KKR in the opening innings, this put the Mumbai Indians in serious danger.

MI: 13.4 overs and 100 runs

When Vaibhav Arora bowled a no-ball, Suryakumar Yadav and the Mumbai Indians were able to capitalise. The 33-year-old brought the three-figure markup by hitting the bowler over the extra cover zone for a massive six.

Suryakumar helped the MI stay on the hunt. Vaibhav Arora was hit for 20 runs, including two pulled fours, by the world’s top T20 hitter. He reached his 24th IPL fifty, thanks to one of those boundaries.

Second strategic time-out for the Mumbai Indians (120/7 from 15.3 overs)

With the game’s greatest wicket, Andre Russell became a hero for the Kolkata Knight Riders. When the West Indian threw a low full toss, SKY attempted to play his signature flick shot, but he only obtained a thick edge. The innings ended when Phil Salt got comfortable beneath the ball and made a simple catch.

Mumbai Indians are out of the game after 18.5 overs, scoring 145 runs.

After losing by a margin of 24 runs, the Mumbai Indians became the first team eliminated from the IPL 2024 season. Mitchell Starc helped KKR win their seventh game of the season by taking four wickets in the final over, knocking down Gerald Coetzee’s stumps.
