IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians' 1st Innings Highlights against DC in Match 20

Sunday, April 7, sees the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC). After dropping their first three games, the hosts went back to Wankhede Stadium, where they were raised, hoping to start a winning streak. Nevertheless, Delhi was coming off a devastating 106-run loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

In a location that would be more advantageous for the pursuing team, DC captain Rishabh Pant chose to bowl after winning the toss. While the home team made three changes, most notably Suryakumar Yadav replacing Naman Dhir, the visitors made only two changes to their starting lineup from the previous contest.

Let’s examine the highlights of the IPL 2024 of the Mumbai Indians’ first innings in their match against the Delhi Capitals (20):

50 runs in 4.1 overs (25 balls) for the Mumbai Indians

Khaleel Ahmed gave DC a respectable start, but Rohit Sharma decided to cause chaos, and Ishant Sharma let up 14 runs in the second over. As the southpaw smashed a couple of boundaries in Khaleel’s second over, Kishan did not want to be a spectator at the other end. Following two consecutive sixes in the fourth over, Rohit blasted a sixth one in the opening ball of the fifth over, taking the team’s score past 50 runs.

Powerplay1: 75 runs and 0 wickets are required in Overs 0.1 to 6.0.

In his opening over, left-arm spinner Axar Patel gave up 14 runs. In the last over of the powerplay, Rohit struck three boundaries off the bowl of Lalit Yadav, guaranteeing that MI got off to a great start.

First strategic timeout: Suryakumar Yadav (0* off 0) and Ishan Kishan (25* off 15) have the Mumbai Indians at 80/1 in 7.0 overs.

Axar Patel cut short Rohit Sharma’s fascinating knock on the final ball of the seventh over, just as he appeared to be on track for a huge score. Despite falling just one run short of his half-century (49 off 27 balls), the former MI captain provided his squad the spark they needed. Additionally, the wicket signaled the game’s first Strategic Timeout.

Mumbai Indians: 9.5 overs and 100 runs in 59 balls

The standout hitter, Suryakumar Yadav, was knocked for a two-ball duck in his season opener, which ended up being a terrible one. When Anrich Nortje made his debut, the Proteas pacer quickly produced a huge breakthrough. The return of two important players to the hut made the DC camp happy. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan was hitting fast, and in the tenth over, the southpaw hit a six against Nortje to surpass the 100-run mark for MI.

Mumbai Indians: 138/4 in 15 overs at the second strategic timeout Pandya Hardik (31* off 27), David Tim (4* off 6)

MI scored quickly, but in the process, they lost wickets. In the eleventh over, Khaleel Ahmed removed Tilak Varma (6 off 5) and Axar Patel caught and bowled Ishan Kishan (42 off 23). Two consecutive wickets slowed MI’s scoring pace, and they were 138/4 in 15 overs when the umpire called for a second stoppage.

150 runs in 16 overs (96 balls) for the Mumbai Indians

Tim David opened the scoring for the death over by hitting a maximum off Jhye Richardson’s first ball of the sixteenth over. MI reached 150 runs with a single off the last delivery.

Mumbai Indians: 19 overs, 114 balls, and 200 runs

Hardik Pandya and Tim David were able to recover the innings, but MI lost their captain in the eighteenth over. Romario Shepherd came to the crease as a result, and he and David both enjoyed themselves. The 19th over saw the Australian batsman hit back-to-back boundaries, giving MI 200 runs.

Mumbai Indians: 234/5 (20 overs) at the end of the first innings

MI scored 32 runs in the final over, thanks to Romario Shepherd taking Anrich Nortje to task. The Caribbean all-rounder amassed an impressive 234 runs for MI after smashing four sixes and two fours. With 39 off just 10 balls, Shepherd wrapped up his memorable cameo. It’s going to be a difficult chase for DC; let’s see what happens in the second inning.
