IPL 2024: 8 Match: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Mumbai Indians – Who Said What?

In high-scoring match 8 of the IPL 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Mumbai Indians by 31 runs. From the start of the game, numerous records were broken, including the most runs by a team in IPL history. It was showering sixes. 500 runs were scored in an IPL match for the first time as well.

Travis Head, notably, gave the hosts a fantastic start by batting first. After being dismissed, Abhishek Sharma took care of business, recording the fastest half-century by an SRH batsman in IPL history. The Australian international had smashed 62 runs off 24 deliveries. Afterwards, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen, with a partnership of 116 runs, caused mayhem in Hyderabad. The first inning saw SRH score 277 runs thanks to runs off 34 deliveries from Markram (42*) and Klaasen (80*).

Mumbai was aggressive from the start when it came to the chase. Ishan Kishan provided the visitors with a great start, and Rohit Sharma maintained the momentum after that. Tilak Varma was unable to capitalise on the start but thereafter went on a rampage, scoring 64 runs off of 34 deliveries. Although Naman Dhir also performed well, things became more challenging when they were substituted out. While Pat Cummins was outstanding on a deck designed specifically for the batsmen, skipper Hardik Pandya battled mightily.

MI managed to score 246 runs, which seems absurd for a losing team because of Tim David’s scorching 42* runs off 22 deliveries.

It’s a game of hitters.

Long ago, it was determined that T20 cricket is a batter’s game. This is probably the game to play if you need an illustration of that. Hyderabad recorded the highest run total in an IPL match with 523 runs. Tim David, regrettably, ended the show on a losing note after Travis Head had opened it. That being said, the entire experience was quite enjoyable.

2. Who is the best T20 batter, Heinrich Klaasen?

What is it that Heinrich Klaasen is incapable of doing with a bat? He carried the momentum against SRH after displaying class against KKR. For the rest of the season, the South African international should feel quite confident after he smacked sixes for pleasure in Hyderabad. SRH management may choose to move him up the batting order since he presently holds the Orange Cap.

3. The Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya What’s happening?

In IPL 2024, the Mumbai Indians lost two games in a row. The team has to confront a severe problem in the bowling area because they were lacking in variety towards the end. It’s alarming that Bumrah appears to be a one-man army. With Shivam Dube in excellent form, Hardik’s place in the T20 World Cup may be in jeopardy if he doesn’t turn things around. Hardik’s form is also troubling.

Losing skipper Hardik Pandya said:

Not really (thought SRH would score 277 at the toss). Wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well. They (the bowlers) were good, it was tough out there, almost 500 runs were scored and the wicket was helping the batters, we could have done a few things here and there, but having said that, we have a young bowling attack and we will learn.

If the ball goes this many times into the crowd, you will need time to get the overs done. Everyone (the batters) looked good and it is just a matter of time before we put things right. He (Kwena Maphaka) was fantastic, coming into his first game and getting overwhelmed, he was alright and backed his skillset, just needs some game time.

Winning skipper Pat Cummins said:

That was insane. The ball was really pinging around. Not until we bowled, it got a bit too close for comfort. They found a boundary whenever they needed it, but we finished it off well. Really impressive, in IPL you play with a lot of pressure but he plays with great freedom. You never play for 270, but we wanted to be positive and be aggressive, take the game on. It was a good wicket, so we have to suck it up knowing we would go for a few boundaries. What’s important is to have clear plans with the ball. Amazing atmosphere in the ground, enjoyed playing here, was incredibly loud.

I said in the previous interview too, the domestic season gives us a lot of confidence. The message for the batters is simple – go out and express yourself. The plan was to attack, I enjoyed batting with Head, he’s one of my favourite batters, I admire him. He told me to go for it if it was in my zone. I’m happy to be getting my chances, doesn’t matter what position I’m playing. I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night, that helped me massively. I would rather bowl more in practice than bat, trying my best with bowling as well.
