After the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first IPL title on Tuesday night, the city of Bengaluru was prepared to welcome and celebrate them in a spectacular way. However, due to last-minute worries about public safety and traffic congestion, the eagerly anticipated open-top bus procession to commemorate the historic victory has been cancelled.
In an exciting final in Ahmedabad, RCB defeated Punjab Kings to snap their 18-year IPL title drought.
With followers dancing in the streets, popping crackers, and yelling slogans, Bengaluru was transformed into a joyous city as a result of the victory.
At first, the franchise had announced a joyous open-bus parade that would start on June 4 at 3:30 PM IST. Following the team’s meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the route was scheduled to begin in Vidhana Soudha and conclude at the renowned M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a felicitation event was scheduled. But a few hours after the announcement, Bengaluru’s traffic police rejected the parade’s request for approval, citing logistical and safety issues.
It would be extremely difficult for authorities to control traffic on the one-kilometer stretch in the city’s Central Business District (CBD). According to reports, officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) attempted to reach a compromise, but the procession has been cancelled for the sake of public peace.
Following the ruling, RCB has chosen to move forward with a new strategy. From 5 to 6 PM IST, a closed gathering at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will honour the players. Only those with tickets and passes are permitted entry to the ceremony. Because there will be very little parking close to the venue, officials have advised guests to use public transit, particularly the Namma Metro. In order to alleviate the anticipated traffic congestion, residents have also been encouraged to stay away from the central business district between 3 and 8 p.m.
