Inglis, Webster Freed for BBL

Beau Webster and Josh Inglis, two important national players, have been permitted by Cricket Australia to leave the Australian dressing room prior to the last Ashes 2025–26 match to join their respective teams to participate in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2025–26. Both players are permitted to compete in the yearly T20 tournament, which is about a week away from the fifth and final Ashes match.

The pair will each play one BBL match before having to rejoin the Australian team for the series finale, which will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the fifth and final Test. On Monday, Webster, a member of the Hobart Hurricanes, will play at the team’s home field, while Inglis will play for the Perth Scorchers the following day.

Inglis will be available for the Perth Scorchers’ Tuesday game against the Sydney Thunder at ENGIE Stadium.

“Webster will be eligible for Monday’s match between the Melbourne Renegades and the Hobart Hurricanes at Ninja Stadium in Hobart. In order to get ready for the Ashes Test at the SCG, both players will rejoin the Australian team on New Year’s Eve, Cricket Australia announced in a statement on Sunday.

Prior to the fourth Test, Australia also announced that Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, two of their best bowlers, would not be able to play in the remainder of the series due to various circumstances. While Lyon has to have surgery for a hamstring pull that will keep him out of action for a long time, Cummins is undergoing workload management.

Australia’s anticipated fifth Test squad: Steve Smith (C), Marnus Labuschagne, Beau Webster, Michael Neser, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Jake Weathrald, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, Scott Boland, Mitchell Starc, Todd Murphy, Jhye Richardson, Brendan Doggett.
