The Proteas are full of confidence after mounting an incredible comeback from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Australia at home in a five-match series. Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s current captain, believes that his team can change the course of the World Cup despite the fact that they have not yet been able to perform to their full capacity. The small cricketer revealed that there have been conversations in team meetings about playing brave cricket and trying to seize the moments. The diminutive cricketer has been in outstanding form in international 50-over cricket this year, averaging close to 80.

South Africa will play a few of warm-up games on September 29 against Afghanistan and on October 2 against New Zealand before their first match of the ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka. In Bavuma’s place, Aiden Markram will be the team’s captain.

Two Proteas players who were initially selected for their team for the major match have been injured. Anrich Nortje was disqualified from the 10-team competition due to a possible back stress fracture. On the other hand, Sisanda Magala was unable to play due to a left knee injury. Although losing these two superstars will be a significant loss, South Africa still has a strong team of quality players that could help them advance far in the competition. Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams have taken the place of Nortje and Magala, respectively.
