Captain Indu Barma makes it apparent what Nepal's goals are ahead of the Women's Asia Cup: "Our first target is to defeat the UAE."

The Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in Dambulla will host the Women’s Asia Cup starting on July 19. In the island nation, eight teams will compete for the championship title. With teams like India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Nepal vying for supremacy, Group A should be ready for a bloody contest. Nepal has a fantastic chance to surprise one of the competition’s elite teams.

According to The Kathmandu Post, Nepal captain Indu Barma stated, “Our first target is to defeat the UAE.”

It is noteworthy that in all of the biennial competitions, the minnows have failed to secure a single victory. They have competed in similar competitions twice before, in China in 2012 and Thailand in 2016. This will be their third time attending. But despite making an appearance on both occasions, they were unable to secure a single victory and came in last place. Indu Barma, the captain of Nepal, is focused on defeating the UAE, the ACC Women’s Premier Cup winners.

When playing against larger teams, such as our men’s squad, our team can perform well: Magar

Regarding Nepal’s presence in cricket, the Men’s squad demonstrated resilience in the just finished T20 World Cup 2024. With the exception of a run loss, they were able to secure a spot in the main event and came very close to defeating the formidable South African team. One of the few players with experience on the squad, Sita Rana Magar, was part of Nepal’s squad in 2016 and aspires for a comeback by drawing inspiration from the men’s team.

“We have more planned than just competing in the competition. Against strong teams like our men’s squad, we think our team can play well. Through mentoring, we now understand exactly how to bowl the ball and bat throughout the entire 20 overs. The team has undergone improvements, according to Magar.
