It is Indra Nooyi's last day as the first independent female director of the ICC

The tenure of Indra Indra Nooyi, the first autonomous female director of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has come to an end with the apex council. The former CEO of PepsiCo assumed the role in June 2018. In accordance with the ICC constitution, an independent woman director may serve in this capacity for three terms, each lasting two years. When Nooyi’s term ends in July 2024, she will step down to make room for a new director.

Reports state that Indra Nooyi said goodbye to the ICC at the council’s meeting in Colombo.

It is also stated that the ICC is looking for qualified applicants for the position, and it is thought that an Australian woman will take her place. It is important to remember that Nooyi led PepsiCo as CEO from 2006 to 2018 prior to taking on her role at the ICC. Former ICC chairman and BCCI president Shashank Manohar nominated her to the ICC.

The International Criminal Court panel, which was normally composed of 17 members, now has 16 after the retirement of a 68-year-old. On the other hand, the board has three Associate Nation directors, the chairman, and twelve full members. The members of the ICC have a significant voice in the most recent induction over individual ballots, and the organisation has announced that a new chairman will be elected.

In relation to the chairmanship, a candidate needs to receive a minimum of nine votes in order to be chosen as the ICC chairperson. Based on conjecture, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah appears certain to retain the role as the clear favourite in the race.

In addition to serving as BCCI secretary, Shah has been president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since 2021. He declined to serve a second term in 2024, and Mohsin Naqvi took over as ICC’s desired job description was pursued by the latter.
