India's squad for Hong Kong Sixes 2024 announced, Robin Uthappa to lead

A much-anticipated return for the Hong Kong Sixes is in store as 12 teams prepare to thrill fans with thrilling play. The matches for this intense competition, which is in its 20th season, are scheduled to take place at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong, from November 1 to November 3.

India revealed their seven-member team for the much awaited competition on Saturday, October 12. The team’s captain is former India opener Robin Uthappa, who led his country to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The two all-rounders on the team are Stuart Binny and Kedar Jadhav, and Shreevats Goswami is anticipated to take the wicketkeeping duties. Manoj Tiwary, who bowls both leg-spin and off-spin, will also contribute with the ball.

As the team’s lone specialist bowler, Shahbaz Nadeem will be crucial because of his left-arm orthodox bowling style. Bharat Chipli, a former batter for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is also in the team.

How recently did India win the Hong Kong Sixes?

Following a seven-year break, the Hong Kong Sixes are back. South Africa is the league’s reigning champion. They were the 2017 champions. Along with England, the Proteas are the team with the most victories in the competition, having taken home the trophy five times apiece. The tournament’s inaugural edition took place in 1992.

In the 2005 final, India triumphed over the West Indies to win the championship for the first time. The Asian team only emerged victorious in this particular competition. They have put together a strong team for the next competition and intend to defeat the other 11 teams in order to advance.

On November 1, Hong Kong and South Africa square off in the event. The three-day tournament will feature a total of 29 matches. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China’s founding, a Women’s Exhibition Match is also scheduled for the tournament’s last day.
