Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has been having a difficult time lately. In the recently finished Test series against Australia and New Zealand, the batter has not scored any runs. Earlier this week, he returned to playing ODI cricket, opening the batting against England and scoring just two runs in the series opener.
Fans are becoming concerned about the right-handed batter’s form, as he has only scored 166 runs in the last 16 innings. However, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak stated ahead of the second ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack that the squad is not worried about the captain’s difficult time, citing the veteran’s ODI performances against Sri Lanka.
In my opinion, there isn’t a problem. Rohit has scored 56, 64, and 35 runs in his past three one-day matches. So, in those last three one-dayers, the average was around fifty plus. We are discussing a man with 31 ODI hundreds, after all. According to India Today, Kotak stated, “When they are (scoring in) back-to-back matches, when they keep scoring runs, nobody asks, when will he fail?”
“I don’t think I would be concerned or consider their form when someone occasionally gets out or has a slight lean spot. It’s okay if you say that the Australian Tests were a difficult time and the players left. However, he has consistently scored runs in the one-dayers, as evidenced by his batting performance in the final three one-dayers prior to the opening game (in this series). Therefore, that isn’t really a worry,” he continued.
