According to reports, India's Asian Games team would replace Shivam Mavi with Umran Malik.

Umran Malik, an accomplished Indian pacer, is vying to take Shivam Mavi place in the Indian team for the next Asian Games, which will get underway on September 23 in China.

According to rumours, Shivam Mavi is currently wounded and will be unable to compete due to this. In contrast, the selectors wanted to send Yash Thakur in place of Mavi, but the Vidarbha pacer is now struggling with an injury as well.

Umran is said to be travelling with the squad as a result. He has so far played in eight T20Is for the national team and taken 11 wickets. The 23-year-old bowler, who was also expected to play in the 2017 ODI World Cup, faltered because Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna were able to recuperate in time.

Umran is anticipated to attend the brief camp that the Asian Games team would hold at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, according to Indian Express. Along with Sariaj Bahutule as the bowling coach and Munish Bali as the fielding coach, NCA president VVS Laxman will be travelling with the team to the Asian Games.

Even though the Asian Games‘ cricket competition will start on September 27, the Indian men’s squad won’t compete until October 3. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team, along with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, has already qualified for the quarterfinals based on ranking. The final will occur on October 7 assuming they advance to the semifinals, just one day before India’s opening World Cup match against Australia in Chennai. Notably, Hangzhou’s Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field will serve as the site for all of the competition’s games.

On the women’s side, they have also advanced to the quarterfinals based on their rating. On September 21, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team will take on a team from a qualifying round.
