India Women to hold week-long camp in Visakhapatnam before World Cup

Prior to the forthcoming Women’s World Cup, which is set to start on September 30, India Women will undergo a week-long training camp in Visakhapatnam.

According to reports, the camp would start the day after the team arrives in Visakhapatnam on August 24. The precise schedule has not yet been released. The entire 15-man team as well as the backup players will be present at the camp.

At the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad participated in a 10-day training camp that included topics including skill-specific drills, match simulations, and strength and conditioning.

Strategically, Visakhapatnam has been selected as the site for the camp.

On October 9 and 12, respectively, the Women in Blue will face South Africa Women and the reigning champions, Australia Women, at the ACA-VDCA Stadium.

At the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday, August 19, women’s team captain Harmanpreet and selection panel chair Neetu David unveiled the 15-member roster and five reserve players for the mega event.

Following their recovery from injury, Renuka Singh Thakur and Amanjot Kaur have returned to the squad. To deal with a back problem, Amanjot has been rested for the three-match 50-over series against India before the World Cup. Despite being included in India A’s team for the warm-up matches, Shafali Verma was not included in the starting lineup.

India will play co-hosts Sri Lanka Women on September 30 to begin their campaign in the eight-team competition. They finished second in 2005 and 2017 but have not yet won the Women’s World Cup.
