A month of fierce combat between eight teams has culminated in the Women’s World Cup 2025 grand showdown. On Sunday, November 2, India Women and South Africa Women will square off in the final match at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
The home team’s thrilling victory over the Australians in the semi-final guaranteed them a spot in the championship match. In the first innings, Phoebe Litchfield scored 119, Ellyse Perry scored 77, and Ashleigh Gardner scored 63, helping Australia to a solid total of 338. India responded with a spectacular chase that won them by five wickets. With a game-winning knock of 127* off 134 balls from Jemimah Rodrigues and a vital 89 from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, India advanced to their first World Cup final since 2017.
However, following a strong performance against England Women, South Africa Women went to the final. Laura Wolvaardt’s incredible 169 served as the foundation for their innings, while Marizanne Kapp’s explosive 5 for 20 period destroyed the English batting order, resulting in a decisive 125-run win.
India and South Africa have never won the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, hence a new champion will be crowned in this year’s final. Remarkably, the two teams had already faced off in a round-robin match in this competition, with the Proteas winning by three wickets. That victory was largely down to Nadine de Klerk, who helped her team deceive the hosts in a hotly contested game.
