Harmanpreet Kaur retains captaincy as India Women's team for ODI series against New Zealand is released

The 16-member India Women’s team has been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The three-match ODI series against New Zealand is set to start on October 24, 2024. Notably, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will host all three of the 50-over matches.

After the India Women in Blue’s elimination from the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 sparked debate on whether Harmanpreet Kaur was the best person to lead the team in terms of long-term objectives, the selectors decided to support her. Smriti Mandhana will serve as the deputy captain, as anticipated.

With the exception of Harmanpreet and Mandhana, eight of the sixteen members who were chosen participated in all three of India’s group-stage matches at the current mega-event. These players included Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Shreyanka Patil.

Uma Chetry and Yastika Bhatia have taken up the two wicketkeeping positions, and Sayali Satghare, Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, and Priya Mishra are all in the running to make their national team debuts.

Richa Ghosh was one of the prominent exclusions since she was unable to be chosen because of her board exams from the 12th grade. In addition, Pooja Vastrakar has been rested to control the bowler’s workload as Asha Sobhana recovers from a knee ailment.

India is eager to get back on track following their group-stage loss at the T20 World Cup.
At the current international competition, India’s first group-stage match was against New Zealand. The Indians were completely destroyed as they collapsed for a pitiful 102 in an attempt to reach the opposition’s 161-run objective. During a nearly pointless run chase, no Indian batsman was able to reach the 15-mark, making it a true horror show. One of the main causes of India’s significant decline in net run rate and subsequent elimination from.

The tournament was that loss. The last time the two teams played a bilateral series, however, was in 2022, when the hosts soundly defeated India 4-1.

India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand:

Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, D Hemalatha, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Uma Chetry (wk), Sayali Satgare, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil.
