India versus. England: Joe Root is under observation following a Vizag Test finger injury

During the first session of Day 3 of the ongoing second Test between India and England in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, February 4, star England batter Joe Root was hit on his right little finger and had to leave the field. In the 18th over of India’s second innings, a strange thing happened.

Gill was given an outside-off-length ball by ENG spinner Tom Hartley. The India batsman came forward and struck hard as Root tried to catch, but the thick edge went to his left in the slip cordon. The ball was racing to the boundary in the meantime.

“During the first D3 practice, Joe Root attempted a slip catch and took an external blow to his right little finger. He will be kept off the field for the time being to get treatment and ice from the ENG medical team. In a recent update, the ENG team management stated that there is currently no indication of when he will return to the field.

To win the second Test, England needs 399.

By winning the toss and choosing to bat first, India amassed 396 runs in the first inning of the match. For the home team, Yashasvi Jaiswal was instrumental, as he scored his first double-hundred in the game’s longest format. Interestingly, the 22-year-old is now the third-youngest Indian to score two hundred and fifty in a Test match. In the meantime, England’s rookie Shoaib Bashir made an impact with the ball, taking three wickets. Along with him, the inexperienced James Anderson and the young Rehan Ahmed also claimed three wickets.

Subsequently, India defeated England for 253 runs thanks to the exploits of star speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed six wickets in the game’s second innings. With 76 runs, including 11 boundaries and two maximums, Zak Crawley was England’s best player.

India reached their second-inning target of 399 runs thanks to a century from Gill and 255 runs scored. Tom Hartley was England’s best bowler, taking four wickets in the process. During the chase, England got off to a strong start when Ben Duckett and Crawley put up 50 runs for the first wicket. After three days of play, England was 67/1 and needed 332 runs to lead the five-game series 2-0.
