After crushing England, India takes back the top spot in the ICC Test rankings, continuing their dominance in all forms.

India’s 4-1 series victory against England in the five-match Test series saw them overtake Australia to take the top spot in the ICC Test rankings. Notably, despite opening the series in Hyderabad with a commanding 190-run advantage in the first inning, the Rohit Sharma-led team pulled off an incredible comeback.

India defeated England in their first series loss under head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes after an embarrassing loss in the opening match. India won the next four matches in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.

After their thrilling victory, India took back the top spot in the Test rankings with 122 rating points, while Australia fell to second place with 117 ratings and England to third place with 111 ratings. The team under Rohit Sharma will continue to be at the top regardless of the outcome of the current second Test between Australia and New Zealand.

After rising to the top of the Test rankings, India regained their position as the top team in all three game forms. The Men in Blue are noteworthy for having the highest ratings in both the ODI and T20I rankings, with 121 and 266 ratings, respectively.

They had previously topped all three forms from September 2023 to January 2024, when they lost to second place in Tests after a 1-1 draw in the series in South Africa. With six victories from nine matches and a points percentage of 68.51 percent, India is leading the World Test Championship (WTC) points standings for the current cycle (2023–25).

India will next visit Bangladesh and New Zealand.

In the first two WTC editions, the Asian Giants made it to the finals. Nevertheless, they found themselves on the losing end of the summit matches in 2021 and 2023, respectively, against New Zealand and Australia. In the current cycle, India will next play two home games against Bangladesh and New Zealand before embarking on a five-match trip to Australia. The Rohit Sharma-captained team will make an effort to maintain their outstanding performance in order to advance to the WTC final for a record third time.
