ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025: India seek to dominate in defence their title

India goal of dominating their opponents early in the field paid off once again as they defeated Bangladesh to secure their spot in the semi-finals of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025.

India secured a spot in the last four at the earliest opportunity at Bayuemas Oval with an easy eight-wicket victory in the reply, led by a brilliant 40 from 31 balls from Trisha Gongadi.

The tone was once again set by the bowlers. India has claimed their first wicket in the first two overs of every game but one so far in this tournament. They managed to limit their opponents to 18 for four at the end of the Powerplay, with the exception against the West Indies.

Shabnam and VJ Joshitha’s shrewd bowling and superb fielding against Bangladesh made sure that India was always ahead, much to the pleasure of captain Niki Prasad.

We’re quite pleased with our performance and the quality of the presentation,” she stated.

It’s imperative that your bowlers step up and make the breakthroughs early on against every team we play. I have no doubt that they will continue to do as well as we have.

Before the game, we’ve been working pretty hard, and we’ve been really well-prepared for the fielding. All we want to accomplish on the field is dominate. We want to give it our all, keep improving, and keep evolving.

The slow bowlers, who have done so in every game thus far, have been able to take advantage of the early breakthroughs made by the Indian quicks.

Vaishnavi Sharma was the player of the match this time around, taking three wickets for fifteen, which put her tournament total at nine, the joint most of any player.

She quickly gave credit to her teammates for laying the groundwork for the victory, even though that was sufficient to win her player of the match award for the second time in the tournament.

“I don’t know how to describe this,” she said. The spinners’ work was made easier by the opening bowlers. Today it didn’t turn as much, so I just went after the stumps.

After defeating Bangladesh twice in the just finished U19 Women’s Asia Cup, with Gongadi scoring the most goals on both occasions, India has now won three straight against them.

On Tuesday, India will play Scotland in their second Super Six game, hoping to make it five wins from five.
