India rises to second place in the WTC 2023–25 points standings following Vizag's victory.

India and England, captained by Ben Stokes, are presently engaged in a five-match Test series as part of the 2023–25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. After falling short by 28 runs in the first Test in Hyderabad, the hosts proved their mettle in the second Test, thrashing the visitors by 106 runs at the Dr. Y S Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam to even the series 1-1.

India now has 38 points, good for second place in the WTC 2023–25 point rankings after this victory. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-captained team dropped from second to fifth place after the defeat in Hyderabad.

Moreover, after triumphs over the West Indies and South Africa, this was India’s third victory in the current WTC cycle. England, on the other side, is struggling in eighth place with 21 points.

Australia, the defending world champions, are still at the top of the standings with 66 points. India must now win their remaining games against the Brendon McCullum-led team if they want to advance in the standings.

The 2023–25 WTC points table is now available here:

India wins by 106 runs over England, led by Jaiswal and Bumrah.

After deciding to bat first, India amassed a massive 396 runs in the first inning, led by a debut double century from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jasprit Bumrah’s six-fer enabled the hosts to dismiss Ben Stokes and company for a mere 253 runs. After the star speedster’s impressive 6/45 session, India jumped out to a commanding 143-run lead.

India’s second innings ended at 255 after Tom Hartley claimed four wickets despite Gill’s century. However, on Day 4 of the match, some incredible bowling from Bumrah and veteran Ravichandran Ashwin foiled England’s attempt to chase a massive score of 399 in the last inning. Notably, India won the match by 106 runs because the visitors could only muster 292 runs.
