Rohit Sharma‘s India has been on a rollercoaster as they get ready to play Australia in a day-night Test match at Adelaide Oval beginning on December 6. India has had an emotional experience with day-night Test matches, from their first historic match to their unforgettable wins.
In November 2019, India played Bangladesh in the first Pink Ball Test match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Virat Kohli, who became the first Indian to score a century in a day-night Test, led the side to victory. With nine wickets in two innings, Ishant Sharma was the best bowler and helped India win by 46 runs in a straightforward innings.
Indian cricket fans, meanwhile, still regard the 2020 Adelaide Test as a forgettable event. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood destroyed the batting order as the team endured its lowest-ever Test score of 36 after a strong start. But the visitors recovered in the series, winning 2-1 and keeping the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
India’s fifth Pink Ball Test is scheduled.
India’s genius was also demonstrated during the day-night Test match against England in February 2021 at Narendra Modi Stadium. With their devastating spin, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin blasted England for a combined total of 193 runs and won by 10 wickets in what turned out to be one of the shortest Test matches ever.
India’s pink ball triumph over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru continued in March 2022. India achieved a huge 238-run victory thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling and Shreyas Iyer’s vital batting heroics.
Despite winning three of the four day-night Test matches, Australia has won 11 of the 12 day-night Test matches and is still unbeaten. The winning percentage for India, who have won three of their last four Pink Ball Test matches, is an interesting 75%. In Canberra, the team played Prime Minister’s XI in a 50-over match to start their Pink Ball preparations, winning by six wickets.
