After India’s ODI series loss to Sri Lanka in Colombo, Aakash Chopra questioned the country’s bowling performance. For the first time in 27 years, the Men in Blue suffered a loss in a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka.
When the team from India was being presented after the game, Rohit Sharma was asked if his team was getting too comfortable playing against the more inexperienced Sri Lankan team. But the series’ top run scorer refuted that assertion. Nonetheless, Chopra felt that India’s bowling squad lacked ruthlessness and appeared comfortable.
“We were unable to use the ball to end the inning. There appeared to be a feeling of complacency that we would take wickets regardless and that we would still chase runs in the event that we didn’t get any. Chopra stated as much in a video posted to his YouTube page. “The ruthlessness was absent.”
Following their shocking series loss, which stunned many in the cricket community, the Indian team has fallen from grace. Against an injured Sri Lankan team, the top ODI team was nearly at full strength. Nonetheless, the Island Nation prevailed 2-0 in the series thanks to their incredible tenacity and fortitude.
It wasn’t to be as Chopra had hoped, with spin-friendly conditions allowing Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel to cause mayhem. In actuality, India didn’t manage to bowl out Sri Lanka at all during the series.

The former cricket player turned pundit claimed that Indian bowlers are also superior to their opponents in bowling and that the batsmen handle spin well on flat surfaces. But Chopra observed that the batting falters and the difference in bowling quality decreases when the wicket turns.

“We play really well spin on flat wickets and I believe we outbat the opposition.” On such fields, our bowlers are also superior to theirs. But our batting becomes ordinary and the difference in bowling quality narrows as the wickets start to change. Therefore, they must handle this issue,” the 46-year-old stated.
